May is National Foster Parent Month.
On May 1 the Lompoc Record (and its sister publication the Santa Ynez Valley News) ran a piece profiling local foster parents Matt and Michael Pennon. Matt, a Central Coast native, is a resource family recruiter and trainer for Our County, Our Kids, an outreach project of DSS.
A sidebar on the piece noted the Santa Barbara County Resource Parent Appreciation Dinner, to be held on May 6 to recognize and honor local families who have taken on the role of a parent in the form of fostering or even adopting a child, taking place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Santa Ynez Presbyterian Church, 1825 Alamo Pintado Road in Solvang.
On May 3 KEYT also ran a story on the Pennons.
On May 16, Noozhawk ran a profile of local foster parentes Lillian and Phillip Pipersburg.
On May 17, the Santa Maria Times ran a letter by CASA's recruiting and outreach director.
On May 31, Noozhawk ran a piece on a Chumash donation for foster kids, quoting our Gustavo Prado.
