The Resource Family Association Student Support Team, or RFASST (www.rfasst.com), is a team of students at San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara, founded the in the fall of 2015 and led by teacher and foster parent Frank Koroshec. RFASST has provided logistical and financial support for parent and student training, resource family meetups, and more. The group aims to increase retention of foster parents through dedicated support to families, to educate students about the needs of the community, to increase empathy, and to encourage students to become future resource parents themselves.
A recent press release about RFASST was carried on Amigos805, and ran as a feature in the October 2018 issue of the nationwide Foster Focus magazine.
Recently RFASST has begun hosting Story Nights, where resource and adoptive parents can hear families share of their experience, followed by a time of support, Q & A and training. The next one is 11/30/18, and the press release about it has been carried across local media including Edhat, Noozhawk, and the VC Reporter.
DSS is a friend and partner to RFASST: providing financial support, and promoting RFASST events on the DSS Our County Our Kids (OCOK) foster care recrutiment program's Facebook page and website calendar.
