Approximately 170,000 undocumented children in California will gain access to health coverage as soon as May 1, 2016. Several organizations around the state want to get the word out and are beginning to host events to do so. Here's an article regarding one such event in Fresno:

Some households may include children who are legal residents and have full-scope Medi-Cal, and also undocumented children wtihout Medi-Cal. In such households, it's beneficial to enroll the undocumented children into restricted-scope ("emergency") Medi-Cal as soon as possible, because they will transition to full-scope Medi-Cal as soon as the program is expanded in May 2016. Full-scope Medi-Cal provides access to free or low-cost preventive medical services such as annual check-ups. Parents will have peace of mind knowing that all their children will have access to health coverage, even if they were born in a different country.
Parents do not have to wait for an emergency to enroll their children in restricted-scope Medi-Cal, and residency information provided during enrollment is strictly confidential. Families can enroll their children through their local county Department of Social Services office.
