Covered California loses local insurer

UnitedHealth Group has announced it will drop out of the Covered California health insurance marketplace. The insurer had only 400 Covered California customers in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties combined. People who have bought UnitedHealth plans through Covered California don't have to do anything immediately: their coverage remains valid until the end of the year. In the fall, they will have to pick a plan for 2017 coverage. Other insurers remain to serve customers from the region, including Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield and Kaiser Permanente.
