Federal budget coverage

We will post occasional items in this spot as the County and local nonprofit organizations react to proposed or actual federal budget provisions.

This 4/17/17 item notes that proposed cuts to Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) have local nonprofits worried. The grants, valued at $800,000 this year, are used for revitalizing neighborhoods and providing affordable housing, and supporting vulnerable populations such as the elderly and homeless persons, victims of domestic violence, persons with disabilities, youth and veterans. Our partners at the Foodbank, for example, receive about $100,000 thanks to CDBG. Other beneficiaries include the New Beginnings mental health counseling center, and the effort to reduce crime and improve facilities for kids at Ortega Park.
