In late June, the Santa Maria/Santa Barbara County Continuum of Care and 20 local stakeholders (including the Department of Social Services, represented on the CoC board by Noel Lossing) launched a 100-Day Challenge to prevent and end homelessness among youth and young adults.
Santa Barbara County established a 100-day goal to achieve the following: house 50 youth; assign a navigator to 100% of youth identified on a real-time list of all people experiencing homelessness; 75% of youth accept case management with an individual service and housing retention plan.
At Day 100, the team had surpassed its goal: 52 youth were connected to safe and stable housing, 100% assigned a housing navigator; and 100% of youth housed with a housing intervention have an individual service and housing retention plan.
Youth surveyed during the challenge reported positively about the impact on their lives, and participating agencies said the relationships they built will allow them to house youth more quickly.
Following the 100-Day Challenge, team members debriefed to share their experiences and reflect on additional outcomes desired.
