Noozhawk covered Foodbank's opening of a new food pantry in Harding Elementary School at 1625 Robbins Street, and linked to a report that ranks all California counties in terms of their success in meeting its residents' food needs.
DSS has expressed a desire to reach out to Santa Barbara's Westside, and this pantry may provide such an opportunity, as it emphasizes connecting the community to resources. In addition to food, it offers gardening tips, health screenings, and food-literacy education, facilitated by a variety of the Foodbank’s community partners, including the Santa Barbara Unified School District and Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics.

The article also references a 2014 report by Feeding America (the parent organization of Foodbanks in many counties, including ours). The report ranks Santa Barbara County 44th of 58 counties in meeting its residents' food needs. We are accustomed to monitoring our ranking through the CFPA's Program Access Index and the state's Program Reach Index. This provides another ranking, albeit not one limited to CalFresh, for us to consult.
