Two items to be aware of regarding health care reform.
- Could undocumented individuals be allowed to buy a Covered California health policy? Covered California's board announced that it supports such a change. There would be no state or federal subsidies. Potential enrollment statewide could reach 50,000. But the move is largely symbolic at this point. To take effect, state lawmakers would need to pass legislation, and federal health care officials would need to give permission. - Are Covered California clients improperly losing coverage? Since 2014 there have been scattered reports of people being dropped from insurance despite paying their premiums, or being switched to Medi-Cal without notice. In some cases, action by an administrative law judge is needed to resolve the issue. The extent of the problem, and causes of it, are unknown. Covered California is looking into it. Consumers who face problems with their coverage and are unable to resolve it with their insurer should contact the exchange’s customer service center at 800-300-1506.
