The marquee event of our Child Abuse Prevention Month efforts this year was helping to bring Dr. Nadine Burke Harris to UCSB Campbell Hall to give a talk on Adverse Childhood Experiences: what they are, how they contribute to chronic lifelong mental and physical health problems, how we can buffer against those physical effects by the timely intervention of a caring adult in a child's life, and why doctors should screen for ACES, among other things. This article gives a quick overview and a sense of how tremendous the attendance at her talk was: https://www.independent.com/news/2018/apr/25/dr-nadine-burke-harris-talks-healing-long-term-eff/
